YamiYugi is the web port of Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories, the 1999 card game. It preserves the original rules: single-player duels against the AI with a 40-card deck.
You do not need prior Yu-Gi-Oh! experience to start. The rules in this wiki apply to both the port’s online mode (yamiyugi.io) and local play.
1. Create an Account or Try Guest Mode
You can try the game without registering: in guest mode, progress is saved only in that browser and online duels are disabled.
With an account, your save data is stored on the server and you can duel online. Sign in using Google or, when email registration is open, with email and password. You pick your username on your first login.
2. Starter Deck: 40 Cards Across Seven Pools
Upon registering, the server generates a starter deck of 40 cards. They are not chosen individually: they are rolled from seven weighted pools, distributing 16, 16, 4, 1, 1, 1, and 1 cards (40 total), based on the corrected ROM map.
The corrected disc layout yields this distribution:
- Card distribution: 16/16/4/1/1/1/1 cards;
- Each pool sums to 2048;
Pools 1 through 4 consist of 37 monsters. Pools 5, 6, and 7 provide three support cards: Magic, Field, and Equip. Pool 5 contains either Dark Hole or Raigeki, each weighted at 1024.
The 40 starter deck cards cannot be traded with other players.
3. Your First Duels
Every duel runs on a single engine, shared across Campaign, Free Duel, and 2-player mode.
At the start:
- Each side begins with 8000 LP.
- Each 40-card deck is shuffled and both players draw five cards.
- The player always moves first against the AI.
A turn consists of four steps: draw up to five cards, play exactly one card (or one combination), battle, and end turn.
The first rule to learn: there are no levels or tributes to play a monster, and no summoning sickness. A newly summoned monster can attack on the very turn it is played.
4. How You Earn Cards
There are three ways to obtain cards, and only three:
A card is obtainable if it enters your trunk via one of three paths: drops, the password shop, or the starter deck. Performing a Fusion or Ritual summon during a duel does not add the card to your collection.
Winning a campaign duel awards one card from the defeated duelist’s drop pool, selected randomly by weight.
Each opponent’s drop table contains three rank pools: S/A-POW, B/C/D, and S/A-TEC.
In online mode, the server rolls and delivers this drop. You can check the cards and weights for each pool under Opponents.
In local play, the password shop (Password Screen) lets you purchase cards with Starchips. Starchips serve as the in-game currency.
5. Upgrading Your Deck
You can improve your deck through three methods:
- Duel Drops: every win awards a new card.
- Password Shop: buy specific cards with Starchips.
- Welcome Pack: a launch gift providing a random booster pack to bolster your starter deck during an opening window; fully configurable via the admin panel (card count, rarity odds, eligible card pool) with full auditability.
Each account may open this pack once, and the roll is provably fair: when offered, the server publishes a commitment; when opened, it reveals the secret.
Packs do not contain duplicates, and unobtainable cards are never included.
The card count, rarity weights, and eligible pool are set by the administrator; see Meta Changes.
In total, the catalog features 722 cards: 621 monsters, 34 Equips, 24 Rituals, 10 Traps, and 33 pure Magic cards.
Out of those 722 cards, 23 are unobtainable by any means (22 Ritual monsters that exist only during duels, and the Magic card that summons Magician of Black Chaos). Another 56 cards are shop-exclusive. There are 345 cards that can appear in starter decks.
When building your deck, the game enforces a limit of up to 3 copies per card.
6. Starter Deck Presets
When you sign up, you choose your starter deck style. Three presets are currently available, each guaranteeing a specific support card in Pool 5:
- Desert Fang (offense and traps): guarantees House of Adhesive Tape.
- Dawn Bastion (control and defense): guarantees Dark-Piercing Light.
- Arcane Compass (spells and balance): guarantees Red Medicine.
The server offers active presets, excluding the vanilla RNG distribution and exclusive decks.
With low probability, you might roll an exclusive deck: Temple Relic, the disc distribution with heavier weights on high-ATK monsters and guaranteed Raigeki.
7. Next Steps
- If you are new to the game: read Rules and then Fusion, which make up half of all strategy.
- If you have an account and want server-side details: read Online Mode.
- If you are stuck: check the FAQ.
- To see card drop sources and duelist tables: visit Opponents and Meta Changes.
Coming Soon
These features are planned in design documents, but the server has not yet implemented them:
- Starter deck cards cannot yet be traded with other players.
